January 2017 - D'Adamo Newsletter

Volume 14, Number 1

Happy 2017

by Martha D'Adamo
Martha D'Adamo

I am excited to welcome in a new year filled with potential and unknowns.

Instead of setting resolutions this year, I am going to set intentions, as I think there is a wonderful difference between the two. Looking at the definitions of these two words, a resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something; intention means an aim or a plan, and it has another meaning in medicine, which is the healing process of a wound. I never knew this second meaning until I sat down to write the January newsletter. It gives deeper meaning to my idea of intention, as it is not only setting a plan in motion, it also means that the very act of doing so can potentially heal that which has not been done, experienced or lived. What a marvelous way to enter 2017; not with the punitive “I have to give up” resolutions but with a more evolved “I want to embrace or bring forth in my life” intentions.

I intend to maintain my integrity in words and deeds, to make my words count and to have absolute integrity in my spoken word. If I don't like something, say it; if I like it, say it; if I know I can or cannot do something, say it so that there is no string of "un-done's" throughout the year. And I intend to cultivate joy and laughter in my life so that lightness of spirit becomes a companion, a dear friend who'll be with me in all the ups and downs that life will bring to me this year.

I’d like to take a moment and acknowledge what an amazing 20-year journey it has been since Eat Right 4 Your Type was first published. Little did we know when Peter was writing the book in the attic of our first home that it would have the impact that it did in the publishing world and in peoples’ lives. So much has occurred during this time. The stories people share of their experiences and how Peter’s work and the book influenced their lives constantly moves me. This January marks the 20th Anniversary of Eat Right’s publication, and we are thrilled to have an updated and revised edition to mark the moment. Updated food lists, new research, information on the microbiome... the journey to individualized living continues.

On behalf of Peter and the staff of D'Adamo Personalized Nutrition, I wish you all a healthy and happy New Year, and my intention that you live life to the fullest each and every day, fully expressing the uniqueness that you bring to the world.

20th Anniversary Edition of Eat Right 4 Your Type

Reflections On A 20 Year Journey

A special message from Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo
on the 20th anniversary edition of Eat Right for Your Type.

"The Blood Type Diet is now twenty years old. It is a happy anniversary for me and for the millions of people around the world who have bought Eat Right for Your Type, the book that started it all. The most striking fact about Eat Right for Your Type is its longevity. It's rare to see a diet book that retains its sales strength after two decades. New diets come and go every season, exploding into the marketplace only to fade before being replaced the next season by something new. And although the Blood Type Diet has often been labeled a "fad" by skeptics, the definition of fad is something that inspires intense fashion in the moment but quickly fades. Twenty years in, I think we can agree that the Blood Type Diet is not a fad."

In the new 20th anniversary edition of Eat Right for Your Type, we’ve introduced the 10-Day Blood Type Diet Challenge, a kick-start plan to help you get started. Our experience is that the Blood Type Diet has an immediate effect. People report that within a few days they experience some weight loss, the reduction of digestive ailments, less joint pain, and greater energy, among other benefits.

My special thanks for going on this journey with me, is my favorite tool from the Anniversary Edition -- A 3-Day Lectin Detox. The lectin detox is designed to jump start the 10-Day Blood Type Challenge. It requires maximum compliance, which yields maximum results. In my experience, people who start the diet with a high level of compliance quickly reset their biochemistry, boosting metabolism, balancing blood sugar and repairing past lectin damage.

Supplement your diet with lectin-detoxifying nutrients. Suggestions are included, but you can investigate more options, including blood type-specific products and foods.

Be sure to keep a record of what you eat, your exercise routines, and the supplements you take. Record your reflections on the journey as you begin so that you can track your progress and hold yourself accountable. Make notes about how you feel physically, your energy levels, mood, and whatever else you want to record.

Dr. D'Adamo's Favorite Product:

Deflect is a unique dietary supplement designed to block problematic food lectins known to interact with each blood type.

Lectin Blocker

Why should we be aware of dietary lectins?

William C. Boyd, an American immunochemist, was the first researcher to identify the blood type specificity of many common dietary lectins. His findings revealed that lectins could bind to many of the carbohydrate antigens found in the gut and immune system. This binding process may compromise the intestinal tract, inhibit healthy metabolism and disrupt the immune system, causing a variety of health problems including intestinal and bowel irritation, bloating, weight gain and lethargy.

Deflect was developed by Dr. Peter D'Adamo, author of Eat Right 4 Your Type. Each Deflect product is designed specifically by blood type and contains larch arabinogalactan and pectin derived from citrus aurantium fruit to help promote maximum absorption. Using your Blood Type specific Deflect product and following your Blood Type Diet may assist in maintaining healthy weight loss, optimize metabolism and develop a more balanced digestive system.
