Happy New Year, Happy New Year of You
Martha D'Adamo

Martha D'Adamo

May the New Year bring us all closer to ourselves, and in doing so, closer to all of those people with whom we share our lives so that we may enjoy the richness that comes from connection and expression.

Season’s greetings from all of us here at D’Adamo Personalized Nutrition and our warmest wishes for a healthy, joyful, and prosperous new year filled with self-expression and the actualization of your personal goals and dreams.

It’s easy to get swept up in New Year’s resolutions, promises and goals for the upcoming year; from what I’ve experienced, I seen long lists written that barely get touched throughout the year. With this, comes a subtle sense of disappointment...not again, more things I didn’t do or accomplish. My goal for this year is for this not to occur. I want this to be the year full self-expression, no matter if I am working, playing, exercising, cooking, relating to my self or others—nothing held back, or as we say in the kitchen, “no leftovers"!

With this intention, we are launching a series entitled “The Year of You,” which will feature spotlighted information throughout the year on each of the blood types and the GenoTypes. We will provide profiles of the uniqueness of each type, strengths, weaknesses, and support materials to help you incorporate your personalized nutritional plans into your life. All of this will be designed to make life easier for you and support you in achieving your long—held health goals.

A friend of my recently sent me a list of ten inspiring quotes from Gandhi, the Indian philosopher. Although all of them are important, three of them resonated very deeply with me, and I think in many ways they can be slighted changed (my apologies, Mr. Gandhi!) to be the guiding principles of The Year of You series:

What we eat, we become. When we eat junk, we become junk. When we eat healthily, supporting our unique dietary needs, we express the highest possibility of our potential and unlock the greatness of who we are.

Our life and our health is our message. Our actions speak louder than our words, and when we live a life of self-care and personal responsibility, this is reflected in our lives and our well-being. This doesn’t mean that we won’t confront illness or challenges, but when we do, we will meet them with strength of character and an integrity that transforms the experience into an opportunity for growth and continued self-expression.

Our greatness is being able to remake ourselves. At every moment, we are the authors of our lives. Determining how we want to write our stories is totally up to us, and by being able to let go of the idea that we are at the effect of our life experiences frees us to be fully who we are. Think about this...are we expressing our true selves? Or have we become the diminished results of what we thought others wanted us to be? Daring to be ourselves is an act of true courage, and each time we express our uniqueness, we strengthen ourselves and we give the world the truest gift of who we are.

Here’s to you and your unique biological, emotional, spiritual self and to a new year of expressing this in the world. May the New Year bring us all closer to ourselves, and in doing so, closer to all of those people with whom we share our lives so that we may enjoy the richness that comes from connection and expression.

All my best,

Martha

Listen and Learn: Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo Speaks About Genoma Security
Peter J D'Adamo, ND, MIFHI

Listen to Dr. D’Adamo discuss one of his favorite DPN products, Genoma Security. A wonderful immune enhancing supplement, Genoma Security works to nourish and rebuild the immune system while controlling secondary inflammation. Dr. D’Adamo formulated this product with Andrographis, an ancient Chinese herb that is being scientifically studied as a resistance booster and tonifier of the immune system, along with Schisandra and Rhizoma Atractylodes—to rebuild and nourish immune systems that have been worn down due to stress.

In addition to supporting the immune system, these three herbs work together in another interesting way—they have the unique ability to break down biofilms that form around bacteria and enable the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics and difficult to eradicate. He also included the herb skullcap, an anti-inflammatory, to this revolutionary formula to control secondary inflammation. Genoma Security is a powerful ally for those with low resistance and prone to respiratory and other wintertime ailments.

You Said It

We love your testimonials! Here are a few that were recently sent to us. Thank you for sharing and keep them coming.
"I started the Dr. D'Adamo Type O diet after being so frustrated by all the nagging health issues and weight gain experienced by the so-called 'eating healthy' Canadian food guide. Goodbye inflammation, headaches, bloat belly, fatigue, etc. It feels like instinct to eat this way. Thanks for all the fabulous guidance." —Female, Type O
"I started on this blood type specific eating lifestyle over 3 years ago. I had IBS, always overweight and eczema for years. Everything has changed! Type Os, Please stop eating wheat AND corn products immediately. You will feel the difference. Focus on food that feeds your body. Get rid of fake food and drinks. Think REAL. Check out Dr. D'Adamos' book 'Eat Right for Your Type'" —Female, Type O
"Two and a half weeks on the diet (type A), taking supplements for one week, only one or two meals not 100% because of eating out. My eczema is definitely improving. I am still a little itchy and there are a few persistent patches, but overall a great deal better. My digestion is also improving, what a relief, after months of torment. To think that I was eating bananas every single day!" —Female, Type A

Naturopathic Physician Offers Hope for Depression Sufferers

“On any given day, 18 million Americans are depressed. That’s almost 10 percent of the population,” writes naturopathic physician Dr. Peter Bongiorno in his book, How Come They’re Happy and I’m Not the Complete Natural Program for Healing Depression for Good?

While that number may seem startling, it does not even include those who are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder, feelings of sadness or loneliness after the holidays, or feelings of helplessness after a series of tragic news stories. When you calculate in those statistics, the actual number may be even higher.

Very often, depression has roots in physical ailments like digestive problems and inflammation, or it can be situational—brought on by life transitions or other types of stress. In other words, in most cases, it’s not a life sentence, and drugs are not the only—or necessarily the best—choice in treating it.

In his book, Dr. Bongiorno provides comprehensive, yet easy-to-follow strategies for people who are suffering with feelings of sadness and depression and utilizes his 17 years of research and clinical experience when offering suggestions that he has found help to alleviate feelings of sadness and depression in a relatively short period of time—below is his Seven-Step Checklist as outlined in his book:

Your Seven Step Checklist:
  1. Check whether you need to take a medication – if yes, visit a physician.
  2. Ask your doctor to run blood tests.
  3. Take a potent multiple vitamin (full dose), fish oil (1,000 mg of EPA) and vitamin D (2,000 IU).
  4. Exercise for 25 minutes every day.
  5. Follow your Blood Type Diet, and be sure to include: water (60 ounces daily), raw nuts and seeds (1 cup daily), fish (3 times a week), green vegetable (at least 1 every day), fruit (at least 1 every day).
  6. Get to bed by 10:00pm or 11:00pm every night.
  7. If you take medication, add folic acid (15mg), B12 (1mg), and zinc (25mg) every day.
Dr. Bongiorno’s compassionate and well-written book offers an engaging look at some natural alternatives to alleviate feelings of depression and practical advice for working with your healthcare practitioner to tailor an integrative treatment plan.
