Gratitude
Peter J. D'Adamo, ND

Martha D'Adamo

Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come. Perhaps it is time for people to open their eyes up to the idea of individualized nutrition; not just to get rid of a few pounds, but to create health and balance where there is only sickness and imbalance. The BTD holds so much more promise for the future of food; under its lens, each food becomes a dynamic entity, which powers that vary from person to person. So much more interesting that just the protein, fat and carbohydrate content!

Every day Dr. D’Adamo receives letters from people expressing their gratitude and telling him how his work has affected their lives. Here are a few letters from our archives…and Dr. D’Adamo’s responses. We encourage you to keep the letters coming-we love hearing your stories.

Dr. D'Adamo, I just want to thank you so very much for all your work and your books. When I first heard about the idea of eating based on blood type I thought that it was a crazy idea. Many years later experiencing some health problems I went to see a doctor who had me buy Eat Right For Your Type. After reading the chapter about Type O, me being O+, I really made sense. I have been using this info for the past 3 years now and I'm feeling young again. I tell people this is the first book they should read if they want to experience better health. Thanks again. -Gregory

A lot of people think this concept is crazy at first exposure. I did a radio show in Europe and a geneticist called in saying that blood type was not more important that the color paint on a car. I thought a moment and replied, ‘Well, if you got hit by a car, what would be the first thing about that car you would tell the police officer?’ The idea behind the link between diet and ABO blood group is multidimensional. Often, however, people in the sciences are called in to comment on only in regard to their discipline. This is usually where the quality of the criticism tends to drop precipitously.

Bless you! Not only have you vastly improved my immune system and some health problems, but also completely changed the lives of several other people that I know. One a type A who did not realize that milk was the source of her terrible IBS and arthritis, and her husband, type O, who cured himself of snoring and breathing problems to the great benefit of their marriage! I will keep on recommending friends and family to read your books and I think that this science is the way forward for the future of the human race. It has even helped me to understand my husband better (he is type O), as I am a B and I know at last why we have different likes and needs and I vary our meals accordingly to suit our different types. –Beryl

Hello Beryl,

Thanks!

Even though I consider myself as maintaining an optimum health level and am my doctor's healthiest patient (45), as a blood group A person I sometimes begin to struggle with the effects of multiple stressors. Lately, I started experiencing mild joint and muscle pains in early morning due to the level of stress associated with 2 cancer losses, a lay off and a job search. I also decided to bring my BTD to the highest level of adherence by eliminating all neutrals and am amazed at the results. It feels like my body is going through this amazing low-grade detoxification. I am completely pain and stress free and am also experiencing this incredible surge of mental clarity. I am now asking myself if the occasional chicken, feta, mozzarella and wheat breads are worth giving up this amazing experience. Thank you Dr. D’Adamo. You inspire me. –Alina

Hi Alina, what a great story. Let's hope that your experience can help inspire others to always be open to improving their levels of compliance if need be.

Happy Fall!
Martha D'Adamo

Martha D'Adamo

Breathe in deeply, aware of all that you enjoy in your life; breathe out anxiety, sadness, pain, frustration. By doing this on a regular daily basis in the morning and evening, you are cultivating an inner sense of gratitude for all that you enjoy in your life as well as releasing the emotions about that which eludes you.

By the end of September and the beginning of October, I generally find myself ready for fall and some simplicity in my life. The kids are back in school, most of the parents’ night events have been completed, the company has returned to a normal (but really, what’s normal?) pace after the launch of the new D’Adamo Personalized Store in Williamsburg, and the UB Clinic Shift is in full swing.

We live in a time of active lives. I cannot tell you how many times this past month where I’ve heard someone say, “I just don’t have enough time to exercise,” or “I feel so squeezed out of my life due to all my work/family obligations,” or the saddest comment of all, “I don’t remember what it feels like to really exhale. I am holding my breath as I try to get everything done.” The reality is that life’s fullness will not change, nor would we really want it. But we need better tools so that we can enjoy it…because if we can’t, what’s the point.

We already know the key basics…following our Blood Type Diet or our GenoType diet, taking supportive supplements to provide additional support for our bodies, and now we have to up the challenge for ourselves by staking a claim for containment and well-being in our lives. This doesn’t mean that we have to drop off the planet, or leave our jobs, or stop doing what it is we do. What it does mean, however, is that we have to do it different, weaving more “being-ness” into the “doing-ness.”

Two simple steps that can help to take back your time and your energy are simply breathing and reflection. For the month of October, see if you can implement two ten minute time periods for quiet reflection.

You may find that in doing so, you’ll be opening a creative inner energy that provides some spark of insight and may contribute to some trouble-shooting or problem solving. This is a perfect complement to supporting your cognitive functions and in this issue, you’ll find some good info on one of our unique products, Attentia. Peter designed this with mental clarity support in mind.

Sounds easy, right? Ten minutes a day, twice a day...try it for a month and see what comes of it.

All my best,

Martha

Weight Loss Tips

Our vision is among our most precious gifts – taking a few simple steps to protect our eyes and prevent vision loss, just makes sense!

Nature has always provided a cure for almost every ailment that we may encounter during our lifetime. Your vision is no exception – if you find your eyesight dwindling as you age, there are a few things that you can do to improve your vision. Of course, getting an annual eye exam by a qualified professional is a good way to start. By doing so, you can track any changes in your vision and make sure that your eyes are healthy.

A few simple precauctions are always a good place to begin; if your job demands constant use of a computer, make sure that the computer monitor is just below eye level. This will make your eyes close slightly and minimize the risk of dry eyes.

Wear a good pair of sunglasses when outdoors during the day – even during the winter. Wearing a hat with a brim is a good idea too. Both can block a good deal of the ultraviolet radiation that can hurt your eyes.

Keep your blood pressure low. High blood pressure and diabetes are two of the leading causes of blindness.

Avoid cigarette smoke – even if you are not a smoker, exposure to toxic smoke from cigarettes can damage your eyes.

Keep your environment humid. Dry air sucks precious moisture from your eyes. Use a humidifier at home and aim the car vents away from your eyes so that they don’t dry out. Dry eyes can lead to corneal abrasions, even blindness! Keeping air humid can help to improve vision.

Exercise – some studies suggest that exercise can improve vision by reducing intraocular pressure and keep glaucoma at bay.

Supplement! Taking a multivitamin (like Polyvite O , Polyvite A, Polyvite B , Polyvite AB, ) to make sure that you are getting adequate amounts of anti-oxidants. A supplement containing lutein, eyebright and bilberry (our Ocubright product is fantastic!) helps to maintain eye health.

Our vision is among our most precious gifts – taking a few simple steps to protect our eyes and prevent vision loss, just makes sense!

The Amazing Brain: 10 Facts About Your Brain
Nancy Kuhn

Lisa Wilkerson: The Big Orange Day

Exercise daily! Physical exercise helps the brain by improving circulation and memory, and balance, coordination and reflexes are all improved with exercise. Mental exercise can help the brain by building new neural connections, boosting memory and offsetting the debilitating effects of age and disease.

  1. Did you know that your brain accounts for less than 2% of your body weight, yet uses roughly 20% of our daily calories?
  2. Your brain is a picky eater. It demands a constant supply of glucose, primarily obtained from carbohydrates like fruits, veggies and grains. Sugary snacks provide the wrong kind of glucose, and damages cells everywhere in the body – including the brain.
  3. A study at Aston University in England suggests that more frequent, but smaller meals help the brain work best. They found that the brain works best with about 25 grams of glucose circulating in the system – about the amount found in a banana.
  4. The brain is 60% fat. Essential fatty acids – the Omega 3’s are brain food!
  5. 20% of our blood circulation is devoted to the brain.
  6. Don’t eat too much! A study at the University of Wisconsin found that there is an immune response to too much food and may cause cognitive deficit.
  7. Rats that gorged themselves on highly saturated fats for several weeks showed damage to the hippocampus – a brain area critical to memory.
  8. The frontal cortex is the CEO of our brain and particularly sensitive to falling glucose levels. When the glucose level drops, confused thinking sets in.
  9. Keep building your brain. Your brain continues to develop new connections through learning throughout your life.
  10. Exercise daily! Physical exercise helps the brain by improving circulation and memory, and balance, coordination and reflexes are all improved with exercise. Mental exercise can help the brain by building new neural connections, boosting memory and offsetting the debilitating effects of age and disease.

Grilled Veggies and Cod Over Apricot Walnut Brown Rice
(Right for All Blood Types)

It may seem like a lot of work when you look at this recipe, but it comes together quickly. The end result is impressive enough to entertain with and tastes great, too.

Ingredients for Rice:

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water (or broth/stock)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped dried apricots (or other dried fruit for your type)
Ingredients for Fish:
  • 4 boneless, skinless cod fillets (approx. 4 to 5 ounces each)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • olive oil
Ingredients for Veggies (Any cut up vegetables that stand up well to grilling and are appropriate for your type would work here.) Our favorites are:
  • yellow/summer squash
  • zucchini
  • onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 of a lemon's juice
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
Ingredients for Drizzle/Sauce:
  • 1 small shallot finely chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • (for types that can have it, 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes is excellent in this as well)

How to make it:
  1. In a large bowl mix together the veggies, oil, salt and lemon juice.
  2. Put veggies on skewers or in a grill bowl. Cook on grill turning occasionally until tender.
  3. With paper towels pat fish dry, coat with oil and sprinkle with salt.
  4. Place on sheet of foil and put on the grill.
  5. Cook fish 3 to 5 minutes on each side, flipping only once.
  6. In a small bowl whisk together the shallots, parsley, salt and olive oil. Set aside.
  7. In a 2 quart pot bring water (or stock/broth) to a boil.
  8. Reduce heat to low/simmer.
  9. Add brown rice, walnuts and apricots to pot.
  10. Cook for approximately 45 minutes, or until liquid is absorbed.
  11. Fluff with a fork.
  12. To assemble, spoon rice onto plates, top with veggies, then place fish fillet on top of veggies.
  13. Spoon olive oil mixture over fish.

Dr. Mehmet Oz Follows the Blood Type Diet

In a cover story in First for Women magazine’s September 19 issue, Dr. Memhet Oz endorses the concept of The Blood Type Diet, popularized by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo’s best-selling book, Eat Right For Your Type. Dr. Oz says that he has more “vital energy” by eating the foods that Dr. D’Adamo suggests for blood type O.
