Fall
Adjustments |
Peter D'Adamo, ND, MIfHI
|
|
Along with the seasonal change comes a natural time of self reflection and assessment that allow us to make slight adjustments and keep refining our life plans and our health plans. These adjustments allow us to stay current with ourselves and hopefully avoid situations where we are taken by surprise. |
|
I love developing new products. There’s something very satisfying about taking a raw material, pairing it with another raw material or two, sourcing it, and creating a supplement that has potentially life changing abilities. This process appeals to the alchemist in me, and I enjoy the challenge of finding unique ingredients to include in the NAP products. This month, we are launching four new products that I am really pleased to have for use personally, and I think you’ll find them intriguing as well. They are highlighted in this issue of the newsletter, and I encourage you to check them out.
As we move into the fall season, I am enjoying the outdoors, knowing that soon,
it’ll be too cold to enjoy gardening, landscaping, and the occasional bike ride.
The process of preparing the land for winter, whether it is clipping the overgrowth
of the Echinacea, cutting back the various grasses, or planting bulbs for next
spring is very similar to our process as humans. Many times throughout our lives
we need to assess and streamline our lives – am I doing too much? Too little?
Have things accumulated that I need to weed out and streamline? What do I need
to set in motion so that it comes to fruition? We also need to do this with our
health protocols. How’s my diet? Have a lot of those pesky avoids crept back
in? What about my supplements? Are they targeted to what is happening to me right
now, or is it the same regime I started three years ago? Am I exercising? And
I am fully expressing myself?
Along with the seasonal change comes a natural time of self reflection and assessment
that allow us to make slight adjustments and keep refining our life and health
plans. These adjustments allow us to stay current with ourselves and hopefully
avoid situations where we are taken by surprise.
Take some time, hopefully in the beautiful fall air, to create a seasonal plan for yourselves. It’s a great way to stay related to yourself and insure that you will reap the rewards of your hard work.
Happy fall,
Peter

Did You Know?
10 interesting health facts from the files of
Dr. Peter D’Adamo. . . |
Ann Quasarano
|
| Here are 10 great facts you might not
know that can possitively effect your health and wellbeing. |
 |
- Horseradish may do more than just spice up your favorite sandwich. Scientists
have shown that this spice/food has substantial activity against
a range of bad bacteria. Horseradish is a neutral or
beneficial for all blood types.
- Regularly rocking a child can promote brain growth, results
in faster weight gain, earlier development of vision and hearing,
and earlier development of distinct sleep patterns.
- Take note blood type O’s: research suggests that combining
cherry with ground beef slows down the oxidative deterioration
of meat fats and substantially reduces these HAA compounds.
- High tissue burdens of heavy or toxic metals have been suggested
to be a common biological burden for most people. Seaweeds
contain alginates which can help bind heavy metals and allow
them to transit more safely through the digestive tract.
- While anyone can have an ear infection, studies show that
type A children, or children of blood type A mothers, are much
more routinely affected.
- In all blood types, the average number of cavities is lower
for secretors than for non-secretors. This difference
is most significant for smooth surface areas of the teeth.
- Green tea consumption might increase the amount of energy
(or calories) you burn. It appears to have a thermogenic
property which promotes fat oxidation. Green tea is beneficial
for all blood types.
- Ancient wheat was about 2% protein. Modern hybrids can
contain as much as 14% protein, largely due to genetic manipulation
in the misguided belief that wheat is a convenient vehicle
to rectify the world’s protein malnutrition. Unfortunately
most of the harmful fractions of wheat, such as the lectins,
are found in the protein portion of the grain.
- Research is clear that a bout of acute stress in virtually
any form will cause a temporary lowering of your immune system,
while chronic stress will result in continued less than optimum
performance of various components of your immune system.
- Exposure to morning sunshine at the time you should be waking
is essential for the proper 24-hour release cycle of cortisol.

Right For Your Type Recipes: The Versatile Pumpkin
|
From the www.dadamo.com Recipe Center
|
|
This wonderful vegetable is the quintessential symbol of fall. Large, round
and orange, the pumpkin is a member of the gourd family, which also includes
muskmelon, watermelon and squash, its orange flesh has a mild, sweet flavor and
the seeds — husked and roasted — are delicately nutty. Pumpkins can
be grown with pesticides that are toxic to the human nervous system. Fortunately,
organically grown or pesticide-free pumpkin is not hard to find. Pumpkin is a
beneficial or a neutral for all blood types, with the exception of the Type B
Secretor.

Update on Dr. D'Adamo's Clinic Shift at University of Bridgeport School of
Naturopathic Medicine
|

|
In our last issue, we mentioned that Dr. D'Adamo was running a Personalized
Medicine Shift at The University of Bridgeport’s College of Naturopathic
Medicine. The Shift began in August and has been extremely well received
by both the students and faculty alike. One of Dr. D’Adamo’s
students, Maura Henninger, is writing a weekly blog on the Personalized
Medicine Shift, which details the journey that she and her fellow students
are taking with Dr. D’Adamo. Descriptive and well-written, this
blog lets you experience, from a practitioner’s point-of-view,
what it’s like to be part of this ground-breaking work. http://theubshift.blogspot.com |
