He began by basing the formula on the legendary herb known as Hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha). It has been extensively studied both in the US and in Europe. One study of 78 subjects found significant improvement in exercise tolerance and lower blood pressure and heart rate during exercise. Another study, following 32 subjects who used a hawthorn supplement for 8 weeks, found improved exercise tolerance as well as a reduction in the incidence and severity of shortness of breath. Fatigue decreased by approximately 50% in these subjects as well.  To the Hawthorn base he added two traditional world medicines: The Ayurvedic herb Arjuna bark, a traditional herb used for centuries in the Himalayas to promote effective cardiac functioning, proper cholesterol levels and healthy blood pressure and Dan Shen (Red Sage Root) a renowned herb in Chinese traditional medicine that contains several unique phytochemicals with cardio-protective and antioxidant properties.
