We are not trained to recreate, and for many of us it is challenging to leave the work pressures behind and follow a different beat.
It’s been a no-spring kind of year, rainy and cold. Hopefully, July will bring with it warmer weather, sunshine, and a more relaxed way of living.
Summer is supposed to be the easy time of the year. Family visits, barbecues,
swimming, gardening, out on the water, vacations. It’s that psychological “summer
break” that we have all been trained for since we first went off to school.
Unfortunately, as adults, there is no real “summer break,” particularly
this year, as we are all working harder to maintain our businesses and our livelihoods.
However, it is important to claim the time emotionally, even if the work schedules
don’t permit.
We are not trained to recreate, and for many of us it is challenging to leave the work pressures behind and follow a different beat. As I was thinking about this, I was reminded of an earlier blog I wrote about a wonderful music group that celebrates amateurism and expression over perfection and performance:
“Got lucky yesterday. Found a site that had the entire LP of the 1974 classic The Portsmouth Sinfonia Plays The Popular Classics available as a download. I certainly don’t support intellectual property theft but this album has never made it to CD and I think the original record label is now extinct. The Portsmouth Sinfonia is the ultimate ode to amateurism: Take a bunch of English art school students --who either cannot play a musical instrument or are willing to play one they are unfamiliar with-- and put them into an orchestra. The only rules being that you had to come to rehearsal and you could not purposely play the wrong notes.
What resulted were renditions of the popular classics (Peer Gynt Suite, The Blue Danube Waltz, The William Tell Overture, etc) in which the inexperience and lack of talent produces a series of acoustic near-misses that collect into this cloud-like approximation of what the proper pitch and notes should sound like. Popular classics were selected on purpose since everyone in the orchestra would know the music and could at least aspire to what the piece should resemble--or at the very minimum whether they should be sounding higher or lower pitched notes.
Here is their rendition of Blue Danube Waltz, Op. 314 (Johann Strauss).
It’s heady stuff and lighthearted. Perfect summer listening.
For me, I am going to ramp up the speakers as I putter around rebuilding my 1971 VW Camper. It’s a total work-in-progress, which is what I enjoy the most about it. Here’s a shot of my progress so far…
Enjoy,
Peter

IfHI Conference 2009 Highlights
Ann Quasarano
Highlights from the IfHI 2009 Conference
at The Dolce Conference Center in Norwalk, CT
The rain and wind could not drown the excitement as the participants
of IfHI
2009 arrived at The Dolce Conference Center in Norwalk, CT on Friday,
June 5. After the 130 attendees checked in and explored the beautiful facility,
Dr. D’Adamo kicked off the conference with a welcoming address, followed
by a dinner of blood type friendly foods.
Saturday began with a gentle stretching and yoga class led by Amy Irish. After breakfast the work began. Dr. D’Adamo lectured throughout the day, explaining the science of individuality with clarity and injecting his own unique style into his teachings. Later in the day, Dr. Tom Greenfield led a breakout session for IfHI Masters and also led a certification review for those testing for the IfHI Masters certification test, while Dr. D’Adamo conducted the Fellows Review.
The skies brightened just in time for a cocktail reception on the patio of The
Dolce. IfHI members mingled and enjoyed more fabulous blood type friendly foods
courtesy of Chef Ralph Croteau. Live music by the band, TrippyPhonics, (featuring
NAP’s
own Wendy Simmons-Taylor on guitar and vocals) was enjoyed by all and by the
end of the evening, more than a few people were showing off their dance moves!
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday morning with stretches and breathing exercises
led by Martha D’Adamo, a delicious breakfast buffet featuring spelt pancakes,
and inspirational closing words by Dr. D’Adamo. After the conference ended,
many attendees took a road trip to visit the new D'Adamo
Personalized Nutrition™ store and tour The D’Adamo
Clinic in Wilton, Connecticut.
Enjoy the pictures which highlight the conference and we look forward to seeing
you at IfHI in 2011!
