IfHI Conference in Norwalk, CT.

June is one of my favorite months. The weather is warm, the days are long, and even though the pace of life doesn’t slow down, it feels more relaxed. June also brings lots of transitions. Whether it is the end of the school year and graduations or the summer solstice, it is a time of change. It is an exciting year for us as our older daughter graduates from high school and she’s about to embark on a whole new academic journey as she heads off to college in the fall.
I see these same patterns in our lives, although they do not occur with the precision of the academic calendar. We reach health plateaus and we “graduate” to new levels of health and well being. We confront illness or aging, and we have to learn a whole new skill set in order to deal with it. Meeting this challenges and milestones and being aware of the growth opportunities they present are part of our evolution as individuals.
So much of my research is about these life cycles and the epigenetic patterns that are woven into them. I see much of my own work evolving as it moved from blood type to genotype, from seeing patients one on one to training professionals to utilize these tools in their practices. This weekend, I’ll be working with 125 of the brightest people in the field of personalized nutrition at the IfHI
Conference in Norwalk, CT. We’ll be immersed in learning the cutting edge applications of personalized medicine, and by the end of the weekend, we’ll “graduate” a whole new group of practitioners who will bring this work back into their practices and their lives.
June will also bring the launch of the first free-standing D’Adamo Personalized Nutrition Center retail store in Wilton, CT. We’ll have the grand
opening for the store on June 13. If you are in the area, stop by and join the festivities. We’ll have tours of the store, raffles and prizes, blood type friendly food, free karate classes courtesy of Wilton Martial Arts, and you’ll have a chance to meet the staff. Click here for more details.
Enjoy these long June days,
Peter

Natural Products in Detail: Chocolate - Raising the Bar |
|
Dark chocolate contains a large number of antioxidants (nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries). |
|
You probably don’t look at a chocolate bar and think, “health food!” But maybe you should. Research shows that dark chocolate has a high flavonoid content. Flavonoids, also known as bioflavonoids, are water soluble plant pigments that have been researched for their antioxidant effects. While they are not considered essential nutrients, flavonoids support health by strengthening capillaries and other connective tissue, and act as natural anti-inflammatories and anti-histamines.
Antioxidants protect the body from aging caused by free radicals, which can cause damage that leads to heart disease. Dark chocolate contains a large number of antioxidants (nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries). Flavonoids also help relax blood pressure through the production of nitric oxide, and balance certain hormones in the body. You may have heard of the health benefits of dark chocolate in particular. There are a number of recent studies which have been conducted to test the effects dark chocolate has on cardiovascular health. The research shows that dark chocolate:
- Lowers bad LDL cholesterol and increases good HDL cholesterol
- Helps prevent the oxidation of cholesterol related to plaque buildup on blood vessel walls
- Decrease platelet aggregation (their stickiness)
- Lowers C-reactive protein - a blood inflammatory marker
- Lowers high blood pressure by supporting the relaxation of blood vessels
- Due to its ability to support health blood pressure, it is also studied for its use in treating and preventing glaucoma
- Pancreas function and Insulin sensitivity was also found to be improved
by consuming just as little 8g of dark chocolate per day for 2 weeks

Dads and Grads - Giving the Gift of Good Health
|
Ann Quasarano
|
|
Good relationships are essential for good overall health, both mental
and physical. |
|
The gift of good health is always in style! This year, instead of
another tie or expensive gadget, tell your dad or grad how
important they are by reminding them about the importance of
healthy living. Here
are ten tips to share to ensure these special people stay healthy
and fit for life.
- Eat
Right for Your Type. Eating a diet that contains the right foods
for them lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes
and osteoporosis.
- Get at least 30 minutes of blood type appropriate exercise most
days of the week. We all know how important
it is to stay active, not only does it burn calories, but
it lowers your risk of heart attack, cancer and high blood
pressure. It can also help to maintain joint flexibility,
relive stress and help to maintain cognitive function.
- Get a physical exam and important screenings. Getting
an annual physical and age appropriate screenings from a
naturopathic or family physician is essential to identifying
potential health problems before they become more serious.
- Take Cover! Skin cancer is the most common form
of cancer in the United States and one of the most preventable. Practice
sun safety by seeking shade during 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If
you plan to be in the sun during those times, make sure to
wear a high SPF sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and a shirt.
- Exercise your brain. Just because you’ve
graduated, it doesn’t mean that you’re finished
learning! Learning something new stimulated the
neurons in your brain and helps to prevent the effects of
aging on the mind. Do crossword or Sudoku puzzles,
learn a new language, study a particularly compelling period
in history or learn a new craft. Better yet,
do it together for some healthy bonding!
- Safety first. Wearing a seatbelt while in a car or
a helmet while biking can help to save your dad or grads
life in the event of a crash.
- Don’t Abuse Alcohol or Use Tobacco. Alcohol abuse
causes over 100,000 premature deaths in the US every year. It
is a powerful drug that slows down the body and the mind. Alcohol
impairs coordination, slows reaction time and impairs vision,
clear thinking and judgment. Drink responsibly. Above
all, do not drink and drive. Avoiding smoking reduces
the risk of premature death from heart disease, stroke and
cancers of the lung, larynx, esophagus and mouth.
- Take your vitamins. No one’s diet is perfect,
especially on-the-run grads. Taking a daily multi-vitamin
formulated to be right for your type helps to fill in the
gaps where ones diet may be lacking.
- Floss Your Teeth. Studies make a direct connection
between longevity and teeth flossing. Periodontal disease
has been linked to heart attack, arterial conditions and
even diabetes!
- Spend time with family and friends. Good relationships
are essential for good overall health, both mental and physical. Get
outdoors and do things together – go for a hike, a
bike ride or even just a walk.

Kathy Zader - ShareRight Success
Spotlight
Kathy signed up for the ShareRight program in February and has been
thrilled to share her and her husband's success on the Blood Type Diet with
her friends, family and even her doctors.
"I introduce the products on a one-on-one basis. My husband and I have
followed Dr. D'Adamo's Blood Type Diet for years and we tell a lot of people
about it and Dr. D'Adamo's products. Our favorite product is the
Chocolate-Cherry Unibar. I usually give someone a bar to try and then they
are interested in purchasing them. I recently gave my Chiropractic
Physician and his staff each a Unibar and now they are signing up for the
Professional program."
Do you find yourself telling your friends about the Blood Type or GenoType
Diets or your favorite D'Adamo Personalized Nutrition product? If so, ShareRight
is a perfect way of introducing them to the program and earning cash back on
purchases - you might even find that your supplements pay for themselves! Here's
how to get started:
Wouldn’t it be great to
make a little extra money during these difficult economic times?
We’ve found a way to do this by doing what you are already
doing – sharing with others about the Blood Type Diet and
the NAP supplements!
The new and vastly improved ShareRight program
allows you to earn commissions on product sales generated by all your
friends and family members who you refer. The program is internet based,
and is designed to allow us (and you!) to track
sales generated by those you refer. At the end of the month, you’ll get
to see a report that outlines the sales and generates a commission
payment of 20%! (So, do the math….Uncle Joe buys $100 dollars of
products, and you earn $20. It’s a great way to let our
supplements “supplement” your income, particularly during this
uncertain economic times.) It’s also a great way for us to say
thank you for your dedication and commitment
to sharing your experiences with the work of Dr. Peter D’Adamo and the
Blood Type and GenoType diets.
